All Things Made New

This is the look you give after you ride that wave. #YO

Happy Friday (Saturday) Night (Super Early Morning) Love and Light to you! Welcome to another winning week of awesome!

I’d like to take this brief moment in time to say thank you. Thank you sooooooo abundantly for being a part of my journey. As you may have gathered by now, my family and I have been going through a lot. By this point, most of it is about healing. Contrary to popular belief, healing is hard work. It takes just as much effort and focus as other kinds of work does. Healing is an intentional process that takes as long as it takes. In some ways, having this gorgeous forum and you on the receiving end of these love notes, has contributed to my healing process. I’ve looked forward to our time together a great deal.

I’ll be honest, there have been so many days that were full of the worst stuff you can think of and all I wanted to do was ball myself up in a tight knot, with the covers over my head and stay that way for the foreseeable future. I could’ve done that. Some Friday nights I wanted to. But no matter how tired, how sad, how confused, how *blah* I felt or how full my day was, I didn’t feel complete until I sat in front of this computer, reflected on the week’s lesson and pressed send. It’s been cathartic in so many ways.

I thank you for reading these love + light messages every single week, for sharing them with your network of friends and family, for your amazingly supportive e-mails and for generally being the superhero collective you were born to be. You’ve helped keep me on path, keep my spirits up and continue to live my potential. For that, I am truly grateful.

It’s a joy to be able to look back on the ginormous wave I had to ride and see how big it was–and almost want to pat myself on the back that I survived that thing. Of course I survived it. I was born to. The universe don’t give us nada we can’t stand up to or ride out into the sunset on if we want to badly enough, yes? So I’ve found this place, finally, of genuine gratitude for the lessons of strength, endurance, radical love, and unshakable faith that I’ve had to remind myself of over the course of the last few months. I found this safe place, this sanctuary in my own skin and with the dearest framily a girl could ask for. I’ve found this place of getting to see how so many of the puzzle pieces fit together and why we are always exactly where we need to be in every given moment. We need to be exactly where we are because we are needed there. If we weren’t, duh, we would be someplace else.  We are all infinite pieces to the most gorgeous and infinite puzzle of divine connection, its either dizzying or wondrous.

I’m reminded about some things I learned a few years back about change and our cells. Every time a change happens in your physical space–literally, your cells conspire together and start to fall in line with the information it gets. Your body is always going to err toward thriving, but your cells can only work with the information we give it by way of our actions (and environment).

Let’s say you want to lose weight. But right now you haven’t seen your toes, let a lone touched them, circa 5 years ago.  If this is the case, your cells are configured for a couch potato; so when the neurons start firing that you want to get abs like Lita Lewis (because you start drinking green smoothies and do some crunches), your cells are like, bow! Let’s do it. But the process of transformation is hard. Re-configuring an existing thing into something else takes work and it takes its toll on your body, which sometimes reads in your brain as dread. Often times, we quit before the transformation is complete (or hardly started-let’s be honest). But exactly like the caterpillar who is destined to be a butterfly, if we keep going, if we know what we’re designed for… all things can be made new at any and every given moment.

Our bodies have a natural reset button that most of us don’t even know exists. Every 8 months we have a brand new body, complete with brand new cells on the ready for a whole new year of life. Again, our bodies can only work off the information we give it. It knows what we want it to do, by what we do. If you want your body to be the pinnacle of health and you rock out with the good food, exercise, pure water and remove stress; your cells take that information and conspire to make you glow. If you just stay doing whatever you’re up to that isn’t healthy, your cells simply replicate themselves based on the information it already has. That’s why change actually feels hard. You’re always in the process of either birthing an entirely knew you or keeping a version of yourself that doesn’t suit your natural affinity toward growth.

Do you know how powerful this information is? Do you know what becomes possible when you embrace and take action on this one thing? It makes trips to the gym or the farmer’s market, breaking a habit, losing weight, trying something new, changing your mind, forgiving a transgression, growing a plant, hugging a tree, smiling at strangers, getting through something impossibly hard– whatever it is that you don’t think you can do…. Just knowing that we hold all the cards of our transformation–makes every day a labor of love. It makes going through changes so much less daunting. It makes all the difference between looking back on the wave versus staying stuck in a loop of dissatisfaction.

It becomes instinct for us to want to change the kinds of information we feed our cells– starting with our beliefs, our thoughts, how we treat each other, the kinds of food we feed our body temple, the people we hang around. Everything. We begin to know that no matter what it is we want, just taking a step toward it is enough for our cells to conspire together on our behalf. I can’t tell you enough what an amazing feeling it is to look back on my own growth and the ginormous waves I’ve survived over the last 8 1/2 years, the last two months, and even the last 2 minutes. I’m persistently transforming because I know I can. The body is already equipped for change. Change, growth and evolution is built in to our hardware. No matter what you’re going through, learn to ride the wave of all things made new. Seriously, as cliche as it sounds, if I can do it, so can you.  Change your mind, (change your cells), change your life. If you really want to.

Ya dig?

So. That’s what I learned this week. I do hope it helps something. Thank you for reading this (!!!) Remember always to #RuleYoSelf with L.O.V.E. Have a Happy Awesome Weekend! Love you madly!
